The designs in these pieces are called limit set fractals. These are mathematical objects created by iterations of functions called Möbius Transformations. Simply put, a set of numbers is fed through a group of functions over and over again until an image forms. The shapes, objects, and colors in the image are entirely determined by the parameters of the functions.
Mathematical Design
While studying math in college, I was inspired by how the mathematics often worked out in beautiful and artistic ways. I explored this as the focus of my Mathematics Senior Seminar. It was exciting and rewarding to be able to share my enthusiasm for math in this visual way with my friends and family.
